Permanent residence

You can apply if you are:

a third-country national

  • after five years of continuous residence in the territory
  • without the condition of any previous continuous residence in the territory
  • for humanitarian reasons
  • for reasons worthy of special consideration
  • if the residence of a foreign national is in the interest of the Czech Republic
  • if it is a minor child of a foreign national who resides in the territory on the basis of a permanent residence permit, and if the reason for applying for permanent residence is family reunification
  • after the proceedings on granting international protection (in the cases stipulated by law, within 2 months after the termination of proceedings on granting international protection)
  • you can apply for a a permanent residence permit after 2 years of continuous residence in the territory, if for at least 1 year you are a family member of a citizen of the Czech Republic who is registered with permanent residence in the territory or you are a family member of a citizen from another EU Member State who has been issued a permanent residence permit for the Czech Republic

Where you can submit your application:

  • at the office of the Ministry of the Interior, according to your residence
  • to the Embassy of the Czech Republic (you must make an appointment beforehand)

What you need to file an application:

  • a completed form (green)
  • a travel document
  • 1 photo
  • proof of availability of funds for permanent residence (not necessary in cases stipulated by law)
  • if you are under 18 years of age - consent of the parent or a legal representative or a legally appointed guardian
  • proof of accommodation
  • a document proving you have the required knowledge of Czech language (not necessary in cases stipulated by law)
  • proof of the purpose of stay (not necessary if you are applying after 5 years of residence)
  • a document comparable to an extract from the criminal register (not necessary for persons under 15 years of age or in cases stipulated by law)

Period of validity:

  • 10 years (5 years for children under 15)

The deadline for granting or not granting permanent residence:

  • 60 days from the date of submitting the application if it has been submitted in the territory of the Czech Republic
  • 180 days from the date of submitting the application if it has been submitted at a Czech Embassy

Administrative fee:

  • submission of an application 1.500 CZK
  • issuance of a permit 1.000 CZK
  • submission of an application of a person under 15 years of age 700 CZK
  • issuance of a permit for a person under 15 years of age 300 CZK
