Social security

Social support is primarily regulated by the State Social Support Act and the Material Need Assistance Act. Eligibility for any state social support or material need assistance benefits is usually assessed based on both residency status and financial situation, which includes reviewing the income and expenses of the family. A major exception is the parental benefit, which is a non-means-tested benefit – income and expenses are not considered. For more information, see below.

Applicants for international protection can apply for state social support benefits after 365 days from the date they register in the country, provided they are not staying at a residential centre operated by the Ministry of the Interior.
