International cooperation of SIMI in the project ESF Foreign workers on the labour market

The international cooperation of Czech non-governmental organizations SIMI, OPU and MKC with foreign partners Anti-Slavery International and Caritasverband Osnabrueck in the project Foreign workers on the labour market was successfully started. The first meeting of project partners was organized as the introductory seminar of the project which took place in Prague on November 11th – November 21th 2012.

The purpose of the seminar was meeting of partners and exchange of basic information about migration issues. The emphasis was on questions about the safety at work-place in the Czech Republic, Germany and in the United Kingdom and experiences from practice of partnership NGO´s.

During the seminar, foreign guests also had a chance to meet with chief inspector and lawyer of Regional Labor Inspectorate of Prague in order to insight competences of Czech labour inspectorates in the area of the safety at work-place but also in the area of controls of illegal employment  with the emphasis on situation of working migrants in the CR. Partners in project also got involved in seminar Work without rights?, which was staged by Organization for Aid to Refugees, where experts were discussing about implementation of EU directives from areas of migration and asylum related to migrants' access to the labor market and to protect their rights. In the end of the seminar the documentary film The Tree Workers Case was screened. The document explains the most known case of exploitation of migrant workers in the Czech Republic who work in forestry. The film was followed by discussion about possible ways of resolution of similar cases with using good experiences and practice from abroad.
