Long-term residence permit
You can apply if:
- you are a third-country national, you have been residing in the Czech Republic on a visa for a stay of over 90 days, you intend to temporarily live in the Czech Republic for more than 1 year including the previous visa and the purpose of your stay remains unchanged
- in other cases stipulated by law
The purpose of stay:
- Family reunification
- Resident of another EU Member State
- Studies
- Protection in the territory
- Scientific research
- Blue card
- Leave to remain in the territory
- Employee card
- Business
- Intra-Company Employee Transfer Card
- European Union Member-State Intra-Company Employee Transfer Card
- Long-term residence permit for the purpose of investment
Since 2011, a residence permit for the purpose of "participation in a legal person" cannot be granted!!!
Where you can submit your application:
- at the office of the Ministry of the Interior, according to your residence
- at any Czech Embassy if you are of a certain nationality, for example, USA, Japan (the decree of the Ministry of the Interior No. 429/2010 Sb.)
- at the Czech Embassy in the country of origin of the applicant in cases stipulated by law
- for applications filed at the Embassy it is always necessary to make an appointment!
Period of validity:
- based on the purpose of stay
- can be extended repeatedly
The deadline for extension of validity:
- no sooner than 120 days before the end of validity and no later than the last day of validity
What you need to file an application:
- you must submit the application on a completed form
- immediately upon application you must pay part of an administrative fee (the rest is payable in the event of being granted the stay)
- when submitting the application, all the required documents must be also submitted
- a travel document, registrar documents (e.g. birth certificate, marriage certificate, etc.), and a document confirming the purpose of the stay must be all submitted in original!!! Moreover, the documents must be officially translated.

The deadline for submitting the application:
- no sooner than 120 days before the end of validity of visa for a stay longer than 90 days and no later than the last day of its validity
The deadline for the decision of granting or not granting a visa:
- based on the purpose of stay
Administrative fee:
- submission of an application 1.500 CZK
- submission of an application of a person under 15 years of age 700 CZK
- submission of an application for a long-term residence for the purpose of the leave to remain 300 CZK
issuance of a permit 1.000 CZK - issuance of a permit to a person under 15 years of age 300 CZK
- issuance of a long-term residence permit for the purpose of the leave to remain 200 CZK
During your stay on the territory, the Ministry of the Interior may verify whether you are fulfilling the purpose of your stay. Failure to comply with the purpose of your stay is the reason for revoking your residence, not extending the validity of your permit, or rejecting your application!
