QUALIFICATION

In the Czech Republic, the education and qualifications necessary for a particular job can be received either by completing a school or a (re-)qualification course. If you received education abroad, you can apply for its validation or recognition as equivalent with a similar education offered in the country.

To build on the previous education or to have your education validated, it is important to become familiar with the Czech school system. The education in the Czech is provided on the following levels:

  • Primary education: 9 years - age 6-15 - Final exam: none - received certificates: a certificate from the 9th class
  • Secondary education

a) secondary vocational school: 3 years - age 15-18 - Final exam: yes - received certificates: certificate of apprenticeship
b) special school or gymnasium (grammar school): 4 years - age 15-19 - Final Exam: school-leaving examination (A levels) - Obtained certification: certificate of maturity (a prerequisite for further study at a university or a college)

  • Secondary Special Schools: 3 years - age 19 to 22 years - Final exam: completion exam - obtained certificate: diploma - degree: DiS
  • Universities or Colleges

Bachelor’s studies: 3 years - age 19 to 22 years - Final Exam: State exam - Obtained certificate: diploma - degree: Bc.
Master’s studies: 2 years - age 22 to 24 years - Final Exam: State exam - Obtained certificate: diploma - degree: Mgr. or Ing.
Doctoral studies: 3 years - 24-27 years - Exam: State doctoral exam - obtained a certificate: diploma - degree: PhD.
Studying at public primary, secondary and tertiary schools is free, private schools usually charge tuition fees.
